I am a UK-based English translator working from Georgian into English.
I started messing around with Georgian in 1991 whilst studying for a degree in something else altogether at Oxford University.
In my final year there it became apparent that I was more interested in the Georgian than in the something else altogether…
By 1994 I was studying Georgian at the University of Chicago.
In 1998 I qualified as a Georgian-English translator with the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
In 2001 I tried to give Georgian up in favour of something a bit more secure. I managed for a while. I had kids, got a 9-5 job and gave no more than the occasional croak.
Then, in 2008, Georgian started pulling me back.
Which is why I am here.
