Last year I was lucky enough to see these two very talented musicians (A Hawk and a Hacksaw) in the upstairs room of my local (The Hare and Hounds). They were absolutely marvellous; I closed my eyes and plotted my escape to Hungary… About a week ago this little number – that I’ve listened to many times over the last twelve months – started swirling round my head and hasn’t stopped since. From dawn till dusk it swirls, and I plot. Mwahahah.

I’m hoping they’ll stage an impromptu gig like this in my neck of the woods one day. It’d certainly liven up Asda…

Anyone who knows me can tell you I have a bit of a thing for fretted instruments. I play the mandolin, badly. I can manage a couple of chords on the guitar. Deep down, though, I’d really like to be able to bang out a nice Georgian tune on the panduri. I even have one. It hangs on my wall, dolefully awaiting the day I’ll work out how to tune it and maybe get round to learning a song. Sadly, though, it’s not all that easy to find a panduri teacher knocking around the West Midlands, and the library was all out of sheet music last time I looked…

Anyway, excuses excuses. This guy clearly has more get-up-and-go than me, because look, he’s taught himself. He’s not even Georgian. I like that. Good man!

And see, even the cat’s enjoying it…
